Moonbin Biography
Moonbin, who was born on January 26, 1998, in Cheongju, Chungbuk Province, South Korea, had a passion for the arts from a young age. He began his career as a child model and ulzzang in 2004 under the guidance of his mother. In 2006, he made his first appearance in TVXQ’s music video for their song “Balloons,” where he played a mini U-Know Yunho. He later had his first acting role in the Korean drama Boys Over Flowers in 2009, playing the younger version of Kim Bum’s character.
Moonbin joined Fantagio as a trainee in the fifth grade and became a full-fledged trainee during his middle school years. He participated in the company’s boy group project iTeen and was the second trainee to be introduced to the Fantagio iTeen Photo Test Cut. He later starred in a web drama titled To Be Continued with the rest of his group members before making his debut with Astro on February 23, 2016.
Astro gained immense popularity with its unique style, catchy music, and stunning performances, with Moonbin playing a significant role in its success. Moonbin also landed acting roles in popular dramas like Moments of Eighteen and The Mermaid Prince and became the new host of the Korean music show Show Champion with his bandmate Yoon San-ha and Verivery’s Kangmin. In addition to his music and acting career, Moonbin joined the eco-friendly cooking program Food Avengers and became a fashion model for the brand “Nerdy Cafe.”
Moonbin and Sanha debuted as Astro’s first sub-unit on September 14, 2020, and quickly received their first music show win from The Show eight days later, making them the fastest sub-unit to achieve this feat. Moonbin’s success continued when he was chosen as the first muse for Neikidnis in September 2021 and added as a cast member for the second season of Coupang Play’s Saturday Night Live Korea in December 2021.
Unfortunately, on the evening of April 19, 2023, Moonbin was found dead at his home in the Gangnam district of Seoul. He was discovered by his manager after he failed to attend rehearsals. The police are investigating his death and have suggested that he took his own life. Moonbin was only 25 years old.
